So. I am looking to get into LARP, but I have no experience with it, and no friends who have ever been interested. I am completely and utterly new, and I need to know everything. Where do I start?

Silly... You start at the beginning of course! ;D From there it's like an adventure path book... who's guidance you follow will determine how evil you are... none of these people can show you how to be good.

first thing you need to do is go to nerolarp.com/download.php and down load the core book, read through it. Next you need to decide what race and class you would like to play (having a goal for your character is very helpfull as well). Once you have decided on what you want to play, then you need to figure out how you want to spend your 30 starting build points. Once that is done you should begine to look over the internet for pictures and ideas for costuming. Custuming can be really cheap or really expensive. But regardless of how much money you have to spend, just remember that pockets and zippers are bad. So which ever way you go try to stay away from them. a simple pair of sleep pants, and a long single colored t-shirt, with a pair of sandals will get you started. If you have troubles making anything, clothes, armor, accessories, weapons, or a shield let me know. We can work out something as I have time and skills to help with any of the items you might need.

One thing I would add, decide early on what type of player you want to be. What I mean by that is will you be sitting in the tavern talking in character all day to learn things about the world or will you join up with other players to go out and patrol the woods for monsters. Do you see yourself as constantly fighting or are you more of a social type? Knowing this ahead of time will help you chose what skills you want to start with. You can always change your mind later, but it take you a few games to build up enough skill points to buy the skills you need. Mostly, just be patient and be willing to try doing thing that you didn't think your character would at first. YarN Malgryti, Master Blacksmith.

All of these are great ideas and very helpful, and I that all of you for helping out.
That being said I have a very different view on what's important to start, as someone who has helped create over easily over a hundred characters. I feel that some times people over think " the START ".
First: download the file book its free and will help you understand what the heck we do. However Don't let it intimidate you, this is definitely a WORLD that you learn as you go.
Second: have an idea of what race you might like to play. Possibly even what class seems interesting as well. One GREAT thing about NERO is that you can rewrite your new character fully within the first few events, So you get to get a feel for the game and what you doing.
Third: costuming DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. if you got some great if not its fine. Some tips are just wear comfy clothes Good shoes and bring extra socks. SAME goes for weapons, it is nice if you know what you would like to try and give us a.heads up before the event so we can set it aside for you,but not needed. Once again, you might not like what you think so through out learning you may want to try lots of different weapons and styles.

Don't worry, I'm a noob too. Haven't even joined up with these guys yet, but I intend to. And none of my friends are interested in LARPing either. Oh...... In fact, I still need to talk to you guys about character creation and stuff, don't I? (Sorry, Dave! ) Also, wow, quite a bit of time until the next event! Is there anything going on between now and then? Jim, Kalamazoo
