Last market day we had a bag of treasure to distribute to a large group of adventurers. We sat down and discussed the division and it went smoothly. Afterwards there were several comments made about how the division went.
I will be returning to the area this month and I would like to hear opinions as to how the treasure should be divided. I would like to be informed as to how the division will work before I accompany anyone on an adventure.
For me its rather simple. Give the gear to the people who need it. If you have alchemy, give it to the rogues. If you have healing potions give them to the healers of front line fighters. If you have scroll give them to the celestial casters and so on. Magic items go to the person who NEEDS it and not by auction. If more than one person has need, then they roll to see who gets it. If you get a magic item you give up the rest of the share of your loot. etc.
I am interested in hearing what other people like or dislike about loot distribution so chime in if you wish.

I was quite pleased with that distribution, I am also curious to know how others feel about this. I dislike the auction of magic items because it screw's the less traveled adventurers out of the opportunity.

Who are you? I am sorry but my memory is feeble at my age.
As for magic items they should go to the person who has need of it and who can use it. If more than one person is interested then a "draw" will be made and the winner will receive the item and give up the rest of their share of loot. As for division of loot, it will be discussed before I travel with anyone anywhere. Things like how it will be divided and who will carry it and who will do the division of the loot.
This town is in sore need of an active adventuring guild. A central place with guidelines and resources for interested adventurers to gather and a place for people who have need to find people to hire.
Just my opinion.

Sounds like a great way to be targeted for dying...

I doubt that a position like that would draw much attention. It really boils down to who you trust. You have to have someone in that position that people trust. I have some gear to donate for member use.

I don't mind being targeted and have already begun creating good working relations with the neighboring cities and local population. Sheriff Stormhammer I would be willing to take up the position.

My apologies for not signing my last post, allow me introduce myself. I am Deputy Eagiz Rodriguez of Midway, Commander of the Scavenger Horde and Proprietor of El Rancho De Los Carroñeros. I do agree with Eros and Sheriff Stonehammer an adventurers guild may be what midway needs to add a bit of balance to the distribution of treasure.

I don't mind aiding in the treasure distribution, I think I have a knack for making the divisions as even as possible, but I'm more neutral party than guild leader.

Some general information for the formation of such a guild from an old and experienced adventurer. Take it for what its worth.
A charter. You need a clearly written and understandable set of rules and guidelines to define what the guild is and what the duties and expectations of all members are.
A leader who can delegate. Far to often I have seen a guild master who attempts to be involved in every aspect of the operations of the guild. It is not your job to do every job but rather your job to ensure that all jobs are done properly and quickly.
To be held accountable. You need to be willing to be held accountable for ALL members of the guild and their actions and you must be willing to hold all members accountable for their own actions.
A book keeper. Someone who keeps detailed records and who has access to information. Someone who has access to the Cosmos library and who has great attention to detail. Someone who will keep an accurate detail of all gear owned, loaned and procured by the guild. Someone who can keep detailed financial records and who is trusted by EVERY member.
A safe place to store gear and guild property. A strong box in a place that can only be accessed by people who are trusted. I suggest putting it in a permanent circle and securing it with a mystic lock. I have most of the resouces to create the circle and I offer them at no cost.
These are just a few suggestions. I will offer any aid I can to such an organization and I will support anyone that I feel I can trust who wishes to pursue this endeavor.
