Hi All,
I want to remind everyone I am not calling anyone out just going over the rules so that we are all playing on the same field. It is important that we discuss the rules so please bring up your questions and thoughts on these or anything else you saw this weekend. 90% of the game is super fun and easy. There are just a few situations now and then that get confusing. I, along with hopefully you, get a lot of knowledge out of discussing the rules and solidifying the correct rules in my mind. Repetition is the best way to learn something. Even if you are new and were confused about something this weekend that seems like everyone knows; I guarantee you that at least one other person would benefit from you bringing it up here and discussing it.
___
This past weekend I was performing a killing blow on someone I had hit with a confine spell and they called resist to my killing blow. Now a couple of things happened that I think should not have.
The encounter went like this.
I threw a confine spell.
I started my killing blow an instant before the other person started their rip count.
I finished my killing blow, the other person called resist and started to hit me.
To me two things went wrong.
1) You cannot resist physical a killing blow (I assume this is the skill they used). Magic Armor, Dodge and Phase do not work on killing blow.
2) If you use a skill you need to restart your rip free count as you have interrupted it to use a different skill.
The only way to stop a killing blow is to knock the weapon (you do not need to violently swat it away) or hit the person doing the killing blow.
____
Another thing that always comes up is focus and disrupting spells. If you are casting spells and I come up and start attacking you. As the spell caster it is your responsibility to call Focus or Armor so that I know you did not get disrupted. Otherwise I just treat all your spells as disrupted and keep hitting you. Focus is a skill and needs to be on your card for you to use it.
____
Physical Strike <Effect>: There was some confusion on this. This is exactly like a spell strike except that instead of Shield/Reflect Magic it is Magic Armor that stops it. Otherwise just like spell strike, physical strike will affect you if your weapon, shield, cloak, etc... is hit. Ex. Physical Strike Cause Mortal Wounds 40.
____
Carrier Attacks: All carrier attacks will be swung and have a damage number. These can be stopped by Weapons, Shields and Armor points before you take the status/instant effect. Examples are 10 Normal Dispel Magic, 30 Magic Death, 5 Normal Ice Paralyze. The big difference between these and the physical strike is the lack of the word strike and the addition of a damage value at the beginning.
____
Force feeding potions: At the bare minimum you need to be near the person, have you hand extended to within a reasonable distance from their mouth (a few inches or so, do not touch them), HAVE A TAG IN YOUR HAND and then do the three count to force feed them. You cannot just touch their back, leg or arm with an empty hand and force feed them a potion. You cannot do a run by. It takes three uninterrupted seconds to force feed someone. If you are totally following the rules you should have the tag in a vial or attached to a vial physrep.
